Every year the PTO funds $3,500 in grant money to Ray School teachers and staff. Teachers and staff apply for grants, which are typically in the amount of $500-$800 each. Past grants have included music performances, snow shovels for the playground, science materials, classroom books and woodworking tools.
The Haven Helpers program has been running at the Ray School for 15+ years. Led by 5th graders, each classroom is challenged to collect a different food item each month. The food collected is taken by PTO volunteers to the Upper Valley Haven's Community Food Shelf which serves anyone in need of food.
The birthday book program celebrates children's birthdays and the joy of reading! On their birthday (or half- birthday for summer birthdays) each child makes a special trip to the library to make a photo bookmark. A new library book is dedicated in that child's honor and the child get to be the first to check it out. Children keep their bookmark as a souvenir.
PTO volunteers manage the Ray School Lost and Found. If your child's clothing is labeled we will try to contact you to return it! Items that have been unclaimed for four weeks are cleaned and donated to LISTEN thrift stores on a weekly basis. Photos and videos of the lost and found can be found here: Lost & Found
Each year Ray School Spiritwear is sold by PTO volunteers. Families, children, and staff can order t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other gear to celebrate the Ray School. Outgrown spiritwear is collected at the end of each school year and re-homed with the help of the school nurse.
Our parent directory is distributed in the fall. Inclusion in the directory is voluntary. Families may choose to list their information in the directory without joining the PTO. They may also choose to join the PTO without listing their information. Families typically use the directory to arrange playdates and send birthday party invitations as the school cannot provide contact information.
This beloved tradition captures the moments, friendships, and memories from each 5th grader's years at Ray. The 5th grade photo memory books are designed by PTO volunteers and paid for by 5th grade family donations. 5th graders are presented with their memory books on the last day of school and can autograph each other's books.
